Global employment law insights: Key updates & actions

Keeping appraised of new legal developments and maintaining visibility of those on the horizon continues to be critical for those planning and managing a global workforce. Drawing on the significant experience and expertise of our teams of lawyers around the world assisting clients with all aspects of employment law, this Update provides an overview of some of the most significant legal developments affecting employers globally and considers the practical implications for workforce strategy, compliance and workforce planning.

Featured in this edition are recent developments in the areas of pay transparency, diversity and inclusion, public procurement and family-related rights reforms. In addition, we feature the ongoing regulatory focus on algorithmic management and worker classification. With the 2 December 2026 implementation deadline for the EU Platform Workers Directive approaching, Member States are accelerating legislative reforms in this respect. Momentum is also being seen beyond Europe to strengthen protections for platform workers.

The breadth of reforms featured in this edition illustrates the continuing evolution of workplace protections around the world. From transgender rights developments in India and enhanced protections for older workers in China, to initiatives designed to improve employment opportunities for people with disabilities in Lithuania, governments are continuing to reshape workplace rights and expectations. We also report on significant family-related leave, protection and support reforms around the world.

Together, these developments reflect a wider global trend towards greater workplace transparency, accountability and protection, reinforcing the importance of monitoring legal change and assessing its impact on workforce policies, practices and long-term business strategy.
