Progress overview

Current status

The Swedish Government appointed a legislative committee in February 2025 for the purpose of evaluating required implementation action. This legislative committee presented its proposal on 19 January 2026. The proposal (SOU 2025:124) suggests that the Swedish Marketing Act (2008:486) needs to be amended. The new regulations in the Marketing Act (as well as some other changes) are suggested to enter into force as per 1 January 2027.

Next steps

The Swedish parliament is expected to adopt the suggested amendments, but there may be some remaining uncertainty as to timing and details.

The proposal suggest a number of amendments to the Swedish Marketing Act. There are also proposed amendments to the Swedish Act on Distance Contracts and Off-Premises Contracts and amendments to the Swedish Consumer Sales Act. In addition, the committee proposes a new act that would give consumers the right to request that a trader must repair certain goods,
